I keep my problems to myself. I never talk to anyone. I don't want people in my business.

It takes great courage to do something different. Anytime we decide to do something different it can be uncomfortable, and maybe other people won't understand, but that's okay. You are strong for fighting for yourself! I encourage you to schedule a couple of sessions, then determine if therapy is right for you. In our first session, we discuss fit. Your first therapist might not be a good fit based on your needs, personality, and experiences. Please try another therapist until you meet the therapist for you.

What’s the difference between talking to you or my best friend or family?

A mental health professional will be caring and listen just like we expect of a friend or family, but a mental health professional is trained to do so much more. I can teach you new skills, help you gain different perspectives, listen to you without judgment or expectations, and help you understand yourself more, which can lead to desired change. Additionally, therapy is completely confidential. You won’t have to worry about others knowing your business or viewing or treating you differently.

Why shouldn’t I just take medication?

There is no magic pill that will fix or solve everything. Medication can assist you with applying the skills you learn in therapy to various life circumstances. Think about it like this, there are many times in life we need more than just "one thing" to help us achieve our goals.

How does therapy work? What do I have to do in sessions?

Every person has different concerns and goals for therapy. Therefore, everyone's experience is different. However, what I ask all my clients to do is to show up for every session ready to work and to do the work between sessions.

How long will it take for me to achieve my goals?

I am unable to give a specific timeframe. However, when clients show up ready to work in all sessions it increases the likelihood of progress happening more quickly. We will work together to create a plan, and we will constantly monitor progress through goals. But most importantly, we will focus on progress not perfection.
